| Why your dog should wear clothes!!
There are many valid (and a few not quite so valid) reasons why you should dress your beloved four legged friend. Here I will be answering the question of why a dog owner should considering the idea of clothing their dog. Whether this should be in purely functional clothing or whether dog lovers should drift into the delightful realm of designer dog wear is another particularly hot topic I will be addressing.
Firstly let’s look at the functional purpose that some dog clothes can serve;
Many people have said to me, and I’m sure to you too, that dogs do not need clothing as they have their own coats. True!! They do have their own coats but not all dogs have evolved to cope with the same climate. For example a Chihuahua not only has short hair but an incredibly small body mass. Take your Chihuahua out for a walk in mid winter in Northern climes and tell me he doesn’t shiver and look miserable. Your little pal would be much happier in a snug warm coat, I can guarantee that!
So, hopefully we’ve established that certain dogs, under certain condition actually NEED to be wearing an extra layer of protection.
Talking of bad weather have you ever considered what it must be like for a dog to walk on frozen ground? His soft padded feet sticking to the icy pavement. Not nice! Some cosy boots would solve the problem for him and make him feel a whole lot happier?
How about in the hot summer months? Have you ever struggled over a hot sandy beach feeling the soles of your feet burning like crazy? It’s the same for dogs who walk side by side with their owners. Once again some doggy boots would solve this.
Talking of the sun did you know that dogs can suffer skin cancer just as humans can?
The solution is a nice cool T-shirt for your pooch.
If your pet suffers from allergies then wearing a dog shirt can stop him licking and scratching the affected areas.
Once we get over the hurdle of whether a dog should or shouldn’t wear attire then we can move into the area of designer dog clothes. If you are going to dress you dog then you might as well make him look good hadn’t you?
There are so many fabulous designer dog clothes available now that we really are spoilt for choice. Not only can your best friend look super cool and follow all the latest trends…designer dog hoodies anyone?... But I’m convinced he will appreciate being dressed in only the best.
Just try walking down your road with your fashion icon by your side and watch peoples reaction, it really is great. Untold conversations will be started over your dog’s attire.
So in conclusion there are very valid reasons for dressing your dog on health grounds but equally there are very valid reasons for dressing your dog on social and darn right good fun grounds too. Have a go; you and your dog will love it!! |
